Eye floaters (myodesopsia) are small dark spots, threads or dots drifting across your visual field. Usually benign, a sudden massive onset may signal a retinal tear or detachment.

When should you seek urgent care?

Seek immediate consultation if floaters appeared suddenly in large numbers, are accompanied by flashes of light, a dark curtain in your vision, or a drop in visual acuity. These signs may indicate a retinal emergency requiring an immediate fundus examination.
