Retinal detachment is one of the most serious ophthalmic emergencies. The retina separates from the eye wall, depriving its cells of oxygen. Without rapid surgery, permanent visual damage is likely.
Why act within hours?
As long as the macula (central vision zone) is not affected, surgical outcomes are excellent. Once it detaches, permanent damage becomes probable. Warning signs: dark curtain, shower of floaters, flashes of light — call or chat immediately.
