In high myopes, choroidal neovessels can develop beneath the macula, causing distorted vision and central vision loss similar to wet AMD.
Urgent anti-VEGF treatment
Myopic neovascularisation responds well to anti-VEGF intravitreal injections, especially when treated early. If you notice curved straight lines or a dark patch at the centre of your vision and are highly myopic, seek consultation immediately. The prognosis is better the earlier treatment begins.
